What’s New at MOHAI

We are thrilled to welcome you back to MOHAI! Here are some important things to know as you plan your visit: 

Reserve/Purchase Timed Tickets

COVID 19 Vaccination Update

We are looking forward to your visit! Due to the status of the COVID-19 pandemic in Washington State, we require guests age 12 and older to show verification of full vaccination status or a negative COVID test to enter the museum starting October 25. We accept proof of vaccination in a variety of ways, including showing your physical vaccine card or a picture of your card at the museum’s entry.

Masks

MOHAI is continuing to require masks for museum entry for all visitors age 3 and older. If you forgot your mask, masks are available onsite, and locally made masks are available to purchase in the MOHAI Mercantile.

Timed Tickets

Walk-up visitors are always welcome, or visitors may reserve a time slot prior to arrival. Click here to reserve/purchase timed tickets now. You may enter at any time during your 30-minute timed ticket window.

Social Distancing

The Da Vinci —Inventions exhibition is on view. All of our permanent exhibits are also open, including The Bezos Center for InnovationTrue Northwest: The Seattle Journey, and Maritime SeattleKidStruction Zone on the third floor is temporarily closed.

Social distancing is encouraged. A suggested one-way path and floor markers are located throughout the galleries spaced six feet apart as a reminder of safe social distancing.

Exhibits and Public Areas

Museum staff are sanitizing surfaces regularly for safety. Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the museum.

 

Group Visits

Group size is limited to parties of 10 people. We are unable to accommodate tour groups at this time.

School and Youth Group Visits

All school and youth group visits require a reservation. Click here to learn more about Education programs at MOHAI and to request a field trip.

 

Food and Drink

The Gourmondo at MOHAI café is open for you to enjoy! Please join us for coffee and pastries, soups, salads, sandwiches, beer, wine, and even ice cream. MOHAI members save 10%!

You may bring and eat your own food in the Microsoft Lakefront Pavilion on the first floor at a safe social distance from other parties.

MOHAI Mercantile

Visit the MOHAI Mercantile to shop a selection of items from local artists, as well as books, jewelry, and souvenirs.

Coat Check and Lockers

A self-serve Coat Check space is available. Limited lockers are available to store items and are sanitized between uses. Please reserve a locker at the museum admissions desk.

Go Paperless

Protect Yourself and Others

If you or a member of your party are feeling ill or have been in contact with someone who has exhibited symptoms of COVID 19, please visit at a later date. If you have already purchased your timed tickets, please contact us at information@mohai.org to reschedule or request a refund.

What’s New For MOHAI Members

MOHAI Members Are Always Welcome

MOHAI members receive their complimentary admission benefit on every visit. This applies to the member and/or any additional named members on the membership account. Advance timed tickets are recommended, to reserve your timed ticket(s), you must sign-in using the button at the top left of the ticketing page to receive your membership benefit at check-out. If you do not yet have an account, you may create one using the Register button, also on the top left of the ticketing page. If you have questions about your membership account or login information, please email membership@mohai.org or call 206.324.1126 ext 194.

Use Your Guest Passes When Reserving Tickets Online

Select the “Free/Reduced-Price Admission or Pay on Arrival” option from the ticket page to use a guest pass. This will reserve the timed ticket under your name. For entry, you must bring and redeem the hard-copy guest pass to the museum. We ask that you complete the form, and present your guest pass at the front desk when you arrive at the museum at your entry time.

Join or Renew Your Membership at the Museum

Visit the admissions desk to become a member or renew your membership. If you plan to purchase or renew your membership in person at the time of your visit, select the “Free/Reduced-Price Admission or Pay on Arrival” option to reserve your time slot and purchase the membership when you arrive.

Reciprocal Memberships

Participating reciprocal and special membership programs still have access to the museum through timed ticketing. MOHAI participates in the North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) and Time Travelers programs.

Please reserve your ticket in advance. To reserve advance tickets, select the “Free/Reduced-Price Admission or Pay on Arrival” option for the number of people that will be using this special rate. This reserves the time slot under your name for no cost. When you arrive to the museum at your selected time, please have your active participating NARM or Time Travelers member cards ready to show the staff at the admissions desk.

Become a Member After Your Visit

You can apply a portion of your purchased tickets towards membership after your visit with your receipt. The admissions desk and membership staff can review membership options with you and help you join MOHAI as a member.

FAQ: What To Expect At MOHAI

General FAQ

Do I need to show proof of vaccination?

Yes, due to the status of the COVID-19 pandemic in our region, King County mandates that all museums, including MOHAI, require guests age 12 and older to show verification of full vaccination status or a negative COVID test administered by a testing agent within the previous 72 hours of their visit to enter the museum starting October 25. Safety protocols change and evolve rapidly, please refer to Know Before You Go  for the most up-to-date information.

Will you accept a negative COVID-19 test in lieu of proof of vaccination?

Yes, a negative COVID-19 test taken within the previous 72 hours and administered by a testing agent is acceptable to enter the museum.

Since youth aren’t eligible for vaccination until they are 12, is there a grace period before 12-year-olds need to show proof of vaccination?

Yes. Twelve-year-olds are welcome if an adult can state that the child is in the process of getting vaccinated. Twelve-year-olds are required to be vaccinated, but we recognize that it takes additional weeks after they turn 12 to complete all shots and be fully vaccinated.

Do children under the age of 12 need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test?

Children under age 12, who aren’t yet eligible for a vaccine, are exempt.

Will religious or medical exemptions be accepted in lieu of proof of vaccination?

No, MOHAI will not be making a distinction between religious or medical exemptions. Instead, a negative test will be accepted as an alternative to proof of vaccination.

Do I have to wear a mask?

MOHAI is continuing to require masks for museum entry for all visitors age 3 and older regardless of vaccination. If you forgot your mask, masks are available onsite, and locally made masks are available to purchase in the MOHAI Mercantile.

What’s going on at the museum on the date of my visit?

Are special exhibits included in admission?

Admission includes special exhibits except during Free First Thursday hours (5–8 pm on the first Thursday of the month). During free hours, you may purchase tickets to special exhibits for a discounted amount.

Where do I go when I arrive at the museum?

Queues for entry will be outside at the front doors of the museum overlooking the grass of Lake Union Park. Please follow social distancing protocols while queuing for entry.

How can I get a walk-up ticket?

Advance timed tickets are recommended, but walk-up visitors are welcome and accommodated as we are able.

Can my ticket purchase be applied to a membership?

Yes, the staff at the admissions desk can walk you through the membership options and apply a portion of your pre-purchased tickets to the membership price.

Is reduced-price admission available?

Yes. In addition to our regular admission rates, we take part in a number of programs that offer free or reduced-price admissions to the museum. More details on these programs can be found on our Plan a Visit page under “Community Access”.

To use timed ticketing with free or reduced-price admission program, please reserve a ticket under “Free/Reduced-Price Admission or Pay on Arrival”. When you arrive at the museum, you will be asked to present your credentials, coupon, or guest pass in order to receive your free or reduced-price admission.

I’m not sure if this coupon or pass applies.

Additionally, you can select the “Free/Reduced-Price Admission or Pay on Arrival” option for the number of people that will be using this rate. How long will it take to visit MOHAI?

There is so much to see at MOHAI, we hope you will take the time to enjoy it all. You may stay as long as you like. We recommend planning for about 2 hours.

Is this museum good for kids?

MOHAI is great for kids! Ask the front desk about available kids’ activities and interactive material.

Can I bring a group of people to MOHAI?

Groups of visitors are welcome, although we are currently limiting group visits to 10 people. Contact us at information@mohai.org for more questions on bringing groups.

Are there guided tours of the museum?

We are unable to offer guided tours at this time.

Are pets allowed in the museum?

Only service animals are allowed inside the museum.

Does the museum have its own parking?

The parking lot next to the museum is reserved for ADA parking and visitor drop-off. That lot may be accessed by using the call box at the gate. There is public paid parking available in several lots around the museum, including a special $10 all-day rate for visitors parking at the AGC lot. Online Ticketing and Admissions

Are timed tickets required?

Timed tickets are recommended, but not required.

How can I get a walk-up ticket?

Advance timed tickets are recommended, but walk-up visitors are welcome and accommodated as we are able.

How long can I stay?

There is so much to see at MOHAI, we hope you will take the time to enjoy it all. We are monitoring capacity so that all visitors stay safe while at the museum. We have calculated your visit time with our overall capacity, noting that the length of individual visits will vary. We encourage safe social distancing to make visits enjoyable for all guests.

Will I have to wait in line?

Visitor entries into the museum are spaced to help disperse visitors through the gallery spaces. There may be a short wait as museum staff check-in and orient other visitors. Our entry queue is outdoors, so please plan ahead for the weather.

Since youth are free, do I still need to get a ticket for them?

Yes. Youth admissions count towards our building occupancy. To reserve their entry time, please select the youth ticket option which is priced at $0.00.

Can I reserve my ticket over the phone?

We recommend purchasing directly through the website, but if you are having difficulties please call us at 206.324.1126.

Do I need to create an account to purchase or reserve tickets?

No. If you are not reserving tickets as a member, you do not need to create an account.

Do I need to print my ticket?

No, you may present your ticket barcode on your phone screen or on paper. Museum staff can also locate your ticket through the name of the purchaser.

I didn’t receive the ticket in my email.

Check your email spam filter or allow emails from the mohai.org domain. You can also email information@mohai.org and we can check the status of the ticket or re-send the email. If you believe the transaction went through properly, staff at the museum can also locate the tickets when you arrive.

Can I reschedule my timed ticket?

Yes. Please email information@mohai.org and we can help you select a new time for entry. If it is the day of your scheduled arrival, please call us at 206.324.1126 and dial 0 to speak to Visitor Services.

Someone else wanted to join my party but tickets are no longer available online. How can they get in?

Walk-up tickets will be accommodated as we are able. To ensure your entry together, please email information@mohai.org and we can help you select a new time for entry. If it is the day of your scheduled arrival, please call us at 206.324.1126 and dial 0 to speak to Visitor Services.

What if I’m late?

Timed tickets are valid for the date and time purchased. If you miss your arrival window, we cannot guarantee entry at a later time, although we will do our best to accommodate you. If it is the day of your scheduled arrival and you know you are going to be late, please call us at 206.324.1126 and dial 0 to speak to Visitor Services. With advance notice we should be able to get you into a new slot with minimal wait time.

Yes. MOHAI offers reciprocal admissions to members that have the NARM or Time Travelers accreditation on their non-expired member card. We still recommend reserving your timed ticket. Select the “Free/Reduced-Price Admission or Pay on Arrival” option for the number of people that will be using this rate. This will reserve the time slot under your name for no cost. When you arrive at the museum at your selected time, please have your participating NARM or Time Travelers member cards ready to show the staff at the admissions desk.
