Maker Day: The Chemistry of Color

This event has passed.

Join ART:LAB for plant-based art and chemistry!

There are flowers, leaves, bark, and berries all around us that can be used to make incredible natural, non-toxic inks and paints. Make and experiment with inks and paints created from fresh hops, goldenrod flowers, madder root, and indigo leaves.

Learn how to turn plants into pigments, the chemistry principles (solubility, density, pH) used to extract natural dye from plants, and techniques to turn pigments into artist grade inks and watercolor paints.

MOHAI Maker Days explore what it takes to be an innovator. Join us on the last Saturday of each month for a drop-in event that features Seattle’s most innovative makers. From art to crafts to technology–come explore the endless possibilities of maker culture!

Location: MOHAI

Cost: Free for MOHAI members / Included with museum admission
