Syvilla Fort: Keep the Fire Burning

This event has passed.

Born in Seattle in 1917, Syvilla Fort was an influential artist who began her dance career in the 1930s at the Cornish School (now Cornish College). She went on to find fame as a performer in the Katherine Dunham Company and was recognized as a transformative dance educator in New York. In the spirit of collective remembering, Seattle-based artists, educators and historians will come together to illuminate her living legacy in a multimedia evening.

Co-produced by BJ Bullert, Edna Daigre, Nia-Amina Minor, and The Black Heritage Society of Washington State.

CART captioning is available during the program through generous support of the Institute for Museum and Library Services. For additional accessibility support, please contact programs@mohai.org two weeks before the program.
