SEATTLE’S MUSEUM OF HISTORY & INDUSTRY (MOHAI) RANKS 6 ON NATIONWIDE BEST HISTORY MUSEUM LIST

SEATTLE – Seattle’s Museum of History & Industry ranks No. 6 in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award rankings for Best History Museum in the country.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of America’s top history museums alongside some of the nation’s most esteemed institutions,” said Leonard Garfield, MOHAI’s Executive Director. “MOHAI brings Seattle’s rich history to life for visitors from around the world, and we are proud that we are nationally recognized for that work.” MOHAI, which serves over 100,000 students and adults each year, is also accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and has been a Smithsonian Affiliate since 2009.

MOHAI is the only history museum on the West Coast, and the only urban history museum in the nation, included in the top ten ranking. The full list of winning museums includes:

  1. National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center – Columbus, Georgia
  2. National Underground Railroad Freedom Center – Cincinnati, Ohio
  3. National Museum of the Marine Corps – Triangle, Virginia
  4. The Mob Museum – Las Vegas
  5. USS Constitution Museum – Boston
  6. Museum of History & Industry – Seattle
  7. Independence Seaport Museum – Philadelphia
  8. National WWII Museum – New Orleans
  9. Museum of Native American History – Bentonville, Arkansas
  10. The Henry Ford – Dearborn, Michigan

10Best Readers’ Choice Awards highlight the best of the best in contests covering categories such as destinations, food and drink, hotels, and things to do.

A panel of experts partnered with 10Best editors to pick the initial nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote.

Location, Hours, and Admission

MOHAI is located at 860 Terry Avenue in Seattle, WA. Exhibit gallery hours are Thursday-Monday, 10 am-5 pm and until 8 pm on the First Thursday of the month. As part of the Museums For All program, low-income families can visit MOHAI for a minimal fee of $2 per person with the presentation of an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.
