Discover, Innovate, Have Fun At MOHAI’s Summer Camps, July 9—August 17

Early registration now available for MOHAI’s popular summer camp program!

SEATTLE, WA – Early registration is available for the Museum of History & Industry’s (MOHAI) popular summer camp sessions taking place in several locations in Seattle, including MOHAI, Pacific Science Center, Center for Wooden Boats, and the Historic Ships Wharf at Lake Union Park.

From innovation to teen writing camps, transportation treks and seafaring adventures, MOHAI’s camps instruct, delight and inspire kids about the past with an eye to the future. Kids get to have fun while exploring history in a relevant, engaging way.

Where else can campers discover what it takes to be a master innovator, strengthen their writing and imagination, examine mysterious artifacts, or explore life on board a ship?

Available for students entering grades 1-12, MOHAI’s camps offer hands-on discovery, challenging classroom projects and unique learning experiences.

One-week camps on innovation, transportation, and life on the water are available. MOHAI also offers a special two-week teen writing camp July 23-August 3 in partnership with Hugo House.

Back to the Future—Innovate! Camp

Ages: Entering grades 4 – 5

Dates: July 9 – 13

Location: MOHAI and Pacific Science Center

Hours: 9 am – 4:05 pm; drop off between 8:15-8:30 am; pick up between 4 – 4:15 pm; extended care available until 6 pm at Pacific Science Center (PSC)

Cost: Before April 30: $385 for MOHAI and PSC members/$415 for non-members until April 30. After April 30: $415 member/$445 non-member

What is innovation? Where do good ideas come from? Join MOHAI and Pacific Science Center to explore innovations from the past, develop brilliant ideas for the future, and discover what it takes to become a master innovator. Spend mornings at MOHAI and the Bezos Center for Innovation, where campers learn about the special skills that help innovators get creative and think differently. Campers then walk to the Pacific Science Center to spend afternoons discovering the science behind great ideas. Investigations include solar power, wind energy, and bridge design to find out how science is fueling innovation of the future.

 

Trailblazers Camp

Ages: Entering grades 1 – 2

Dates: August 6 – 10

Location: MOHAI

Hours: 9 am – 4 pm (drop off between 8:45 – 9 am, pick up between 4 – 4:15 pm); Extended care offered evenings only, 4 – 5 pm

Cost: Before May 31, 2017, $350*; after May 31, $380*
Extended care, $50 per week or $12 per day
*5% discount is available to MOHAI members and Seattle Children’s Theater (SCT) subscribers.

Registration: General (member & non-member) now open

There’s an adventure this summer at MOHAI through Lake Union Park. During daily explorations throughout the museum, campers examine mysterious artifacts and photographs to dive into the history of how people traveled by foot, boat, rail, and air. Campers build model boats, read books about historic journeys, and dream up new forms of transportation for the future. Then, with Seattle Children’s Theatre teaching artists, campers enter their own interactive story to create new ways to travel through field and forest, across mountains, over oceans, and into the skies.

 

Seafaring Adventure Camp

Ages: Entering Grades 3-5

Dates: August 13 – 17

Location: MOHAI, the Center for Wooden Boats, and the Historic Ships Wharf in Lake Union Park

Hours: 9 am – 4 pm; drop off between 8:45 – 9 am; pick up between 4 – 4:15 pm; extended care offered evenings only, 4 – 5 pm

Cost: Before April 30, $325 MOHAI members / $350 general public; after April 30, $350 MOHAI members / $375 general public

Extended care, $45 per week

Embark on a seafaring adventure at Lake Union Park with MOHAI, the Center for Wooden Boats, SS VIRGINIA V, and Northwest Seaport. This week-long camp takes place on land and in boats on the waters of Lake Union. Campers experience life on board of a ship, and plunge into the science of steam powered engines, navigation, and model sailboat building. Don’t miss the fun!

 

Scribes Writing Camp

Ages: Entering Grades 7-12

Dates: July 23 – August 3 (Monday – Friday. No camp on Saturday or Sunday)

Location: MOHAI

Hours: 10 am – 4 pm; arrival between 9:30 – 10 am

Cost: Before March 31, $725; after March 31, $750

Need-based full and partial scholarships available

Registration: Now open

MOHAI is teaming up with Hugo House for the popular Scribes program at the museum. Scribes Writing Camp is an opportunity for middle- and high-school students to engage intensely with creative writing, develop their craft, learn from accomplished guest artists, and discover a diverse range of genres, forms, and writers. The Scribes Camp also includes a special public reading of students’ work on the evening of August 2.
