Title: Director of Human Resources & Administration

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer

Location: MOHAI, McQuaid MOHAI Resource Center, Georgetown & Lake Union Park’s Armory building

Classification: Full-time, Salaried, Exempt

Rate of Pay: $75,000 – $85,000, DOE

Benefits: Medical and dental insurance; eligible for participation in 403 (b) savings plan

 

Position Description:

The Director of Human Resources & Administration develops, manages, and administers the human resources and administration of MOHAI personnel policies and programs. The Director works closely with the Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer (CFO/COO), and senior management in shaping the institutional culture of the organization. The Director is a key member of the senior leadership team and provides strategic and tactical leadership for MOHAI’s human resources programs and endeavors. This individual is responsible for establishing, delivering and overseeing inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility strategies and programs to support an inclusive work environment at MOHAI.

Human Resources

  • Administer and manage all human resources related activities including recruiting, on-boarding and exiting, employee relations, HR policies/procedures, racial equity program, labor compliance, compensation review/analysis and benefits programs.
  • Ensure that all interactions are culturally responsive, respectful, and based on a foundation of MOHAI’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA).
  • Maintain and facilitate recruiting processes to attract and retain top candidates while partnering with hiring managers for effective hiring.
  • Manage and update employee handbook and policies and ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws.
  • Oversee and maintain the employee performance management program.
  • Establish and implement programs and policies that comply with MOHAI values, HR policies and governmental laws and regulations.
  • Administer employee relations program(s). This includes investigating employee relations and employee performance issues, overseeing corrective action processes, providing guidance and recommendations for resolution.
  • Liaise with external consultants and legal counsel on HR issues as directed by the CFO/COO or Executive Director.
  • Work with the Volunteer and Education Office Coordinator on the Volunteer Services program and advise museum departments on internships.
  • Review and collaborate on employee compensation and benefit plans with the CFO/COO.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Administration

  • Key member and contributor in MOHAI’s safety committee and program along with the Senior Manager, Facilities & Security and staff leadership. This includes COVID-19 policies, procedures and safety protocols. Serve as a key member of the COVID-19 Response Team.
  • Organize the annual staff retreat.
  • Work on special projects as assigned by the CFO/COO and Executive Director.
  • Participate in and lead MOHAI committees as assigned.

IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility)

  • Oversee and manage MOHAI’s IDEA Committee and Sub-Committees. Lead and collaborate with IDEA Committee Core members to ensure a consistent, smooth process for implementing the Racial Equity Workplan.
  • Drive measurable results, including translating best practices in IDEA into accessible and consumable guidance, policies, practices, resources and programs aligned with museum needs.
  • Regularly communicate internal and external IDEA initiatives, events, and progress.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and develop strategic action to attract, develop, and retain diverse talent by analyzing and presenting talent demographics, monitoring data trends and developing IDEA initiatives.
  • Design policies and procedures that reinforce inclusion, equity, diversity, and accessibility in the workplace.
  • Advocate for and consult with underrepresented groups to ensure all staff voices are heard.
  • Active member of the Data Equity Sub-Committee and oversee the annual Staff Survey, aggregation and summary.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of human resources management experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Non-profit arts, heritage and culture experience preferred, including non-profit strategic or business planning or equivalent.
  • Commitment to the institutional values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
  • Strong organizational planning and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the big picture.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport, demonstrate listening skills and good judgment, while working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with the management and professional development of employees.
  • Bilingual and multilingual skills valued.
  • Enthusiasm for MOHAI’s exhibits, programs, and mission.
