Position Title: Database and Research Specialist

Reports to: Director of Annual Giving and Membership

Location(s): MOHAI Resource Center at Georgetown

Classification: Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Position Description:

The Database and Research Specialist is responsible for analysis of the museum’s activities and environment as reflected in demographics, audience participation, donations, membership, and geographic factors. Additionally, the position ensures the integrity of data and accessibility of information stored in the museum’s relational database. This position generates special reports, lists, and analyses for management, both routinely and upon request. Museum activity and data functions supported by this position include Advancement, (development and membership), Admissions, Attendance, Events, Education, and Public Programs. Additionally, this position will: train and assist staff, audit the data elements, manage interface between website and application, and perform research for Museum Directors. Possessing a strong sense of curiosity and a passion for learning new technology, the Database and Research Specialist works collaboratively with staff and leadership throughout the museum. This position is a member of the Advancement department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of CRM/Revenue system application (Blackbaud’s Altru) including:
    • Responsible for maintaining integrity of Altru for advancement efforts.
    • Fulfill all list requests for mailings, events, reports; assist users in Advancement, Visitor Services, Public Programs and Education departments in the creation of segmented mailing lists.
    • Provide prospect research to support all fundraising efforts.
    • Assist in major giving portfolio tracking and reporting.
    • Responsible for producing special reports as requested.
    • Maintain metrics reports for Advancement, convene Altru Users group, and coordinate museum-wide metrics reports.
    • Ongoing data monitoring, to ensure information is consistently and accurately entered includes data deduplication and address verification.
    • Develop, update, and maintain application policies and procedures for administration and for users in departments throughout the museum.
    • Liaison between MOHAI and Blackbaud teams.
  • Ensure that all interactions are culturally responsive, respectful, and based on a foundation of MOHAI’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
  • Conduct custom data analysis and demographic research as requested by the Executive Director, CFO, Chief Advancement Officer, Major Gifts Officer, and the Director of Annual Giving and Membership.
  • Manage data between the Altru database and various third-party applications, including the MOHAI website/WordPress, Greater Giving, and MailChimp.
  • Manage Altru web-based forms for event registration, ticket sales, membership purchasing, etc.
  • Support the monthly financial reconciliation of fundraising activity.
  • Compile and analyze visitor, donor, and member surveys. Analyze audience and market research data.
  • Perform other duties as required to meet data management & analysis goals.
  • Opportunity to serve on IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility) Committee.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years’ work experience in the field of data management and related operations.
  • Knowledge of data management best practices and how to apply them.
  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects concurrently.
  • Work experience using a CRM application such as Altru or Raiser’s Edge.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, etc.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts in writing and in-person; empowering staff members’ use of application systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and good judgment; skilled at trouble-shooting and problem-solving.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality; exercise discretion and diplomacy.
  • Excellent self-motivation and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Enthusiasm for MOHAI’s exhibits, programs, and mission.
