Free First Thursday: Day of the Dead

This event has passed.

Explore the Day of the Dead as celebrated in Michoacán, the land of water, with a day full of activities! Events include storytelling with children’s author Nora Girón-Dolce, hands-on art-making with a Michoacán Master Craftsman, and live performances of traditional music and dance featuring Bailadores de Bronce and the Ballard Civic Orchestra. Bring mementos of your loved ones to add to the community altar. This event is generously sponsored by the Consulate of Mexico in Seattle.

On Free First Thursdays, enjoy free admission to our permanent exhibit during extended hours, from 10 am to 8 pm. Free admission includes: True Northwest: The Seattle Journey, and the Bezos Center for Innovation.

Explora el día de los muertos al estilo de Michoacán: tierra de agua, con un día lleno de actividades! Tendremos a la autora y cuentacuentos Nora Giron-Dolce, un taller de artesanías con un artesano michoacano, danza tradicional de Michoacán con los Bailadores de Bronce y música de compositores michoacanos con Paula Nava Madrigal y la Ballard Civic Orchestra. No olvides traer tus recuerdos y fotografías de tus seres queridos para participar en nuestro altar comunitario. Este evento ha sido generosamente patrocinado por el Consulado de México en Seattle.

En nuestros Free First Thursdays, disfrute de acceso gratuito a nuestras exhibiciones permanentes durante el horario extendido, de 10 AM a 8 PM. El accedo gratuito incluye: True Northwest: The Seattle Journey (Noroeste auténtico: la experiencia de Seattle) y El Centro Bezos para la Innovación.

All Day: “Day of the Dead Traditions in Michoacán” film in the Joshua Green Foundation Theater

All Day: Altar building in the Faye G. Allen Grand Atrium

10 am—5 pm: Portraits of the Dead craft activity in the Faye G. Allen Grand Atrium

11 am: Storytelling with author Nora Giron-Dolce in the Microsoft Lakefront Pavilion

Noon—5 pm: Paper marigolds with Pratt Fine Arts in the Faye G. Allen Grand Atrium

1 pm—5 pm: Crafts from Michoacán workshop in the Microsoft Lakefront Pavilion

5:30 pm and 6 pm: Bailadores de Bronce perform traditional dances from Michoacán in the Faye G. Allen Grand Atrium

6:20 pm: Introductory words from Consul of Mexico Roberto Dondisch

6:30 pm: Ballard Civic Orchestra and Singing in the Rain Choir present: La llorona, Janitzio and Fauré’s Requiem in the Faye G. Allen Grand Atrium
