MOHAI’s volunteers have a wealth of knowledge and experience that enriches every visitors’ experience. Sharing those stories make each visit special and unique, while helping people connect with the city, the museum and its mission.

Volunteers are crucial in helping MOHAI reach its goals. Their skills and dedication make MOHAI a richer and more vibrant place. Visitors and staff alike benefit from and are grateful for their expertise, which ultimately makes the museum more accessible to all.

Facilitate a Love for History for All Ages

Volunteers help to make history and its stories interesting, relevant, and accessible for visitors of all ages. Their expertise creates an inclusive space where people feel comfortable to explore and discuss history and innovation.


Volunteer and become part of the MOHAI family while sharing stories, preserving history, and being an important resource to the community. Volunteers are crucial to MOHAI’s mission and work. Their skills, generosity, and passion for history and community make the museum a richer and more responsive institution.

In return for their service, active volunteers receive member benefits including free admission to the museum, discounts at MOHAI’s Store and South Lake Café, learning opportunities, and invitations to special events. Each year, MOHAI also honors an outstanding volunteer with the Tom Landry Volunteer of the Year Award.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Visitor Services Team

Volunteer with MOHAI’s Visitor Services team to help welcome and assist museum visitors during weekends, holidays, First Thursdays, and during other busy event days. This is a great opportunity for friendly, outgoing people who enjoy providing excellent customer service in a museum environment.

Gallery Ambassador Team

Interested in interpreting history at the museum? Join a group of talented, dedicated Gallery Ambassador volunteers and help make history come alive. Gallery Ambassadors often begin in as part of the Visitor Services team and are required to go through an interpretation and history training course at MOHAI.

Special Events Team

Only available on week nights and weekends? Join the savvy and friendly Special Events team and help support the public in a wide variety of MOHAI’s ongoing events and programs.

Youth and Family Program Assistant Team

The Youth and Family Program Assistant team works at events and programs geared towards youth and families on First Thursdays, monthly Maker Days, as well as at other special exhibit programs and event days. This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy crafting, creative activities, and working with kids.
