Summer Camps

Spend summers with MOHAI and go adventuring!

Looking to investigate innovation, practice creative writing, or go on seafaring adventures? Each summer, MOHAI partners with different organizations around Seattle bringing fun camps to kids. MOHAI members receive discounts, too! Registration opens in the Winter and Spring of 2017.

Back to the Future—Innovate! Edition - SOLD OUT!

What is innovation? Where do good ideas come from? Kids entering grades 4–6 can explore innovations from the past, develop new brilliant ideas for the future.

Join MOHAI and Pacific Science Center (PSC) to explore innovations from the past, develop new brilliant ideas for the future, and find out what it takes to become a master innovator. Campers spend mornings with Pacific Science Center exploring the science behind great ideas like solar power, wind energy, and bridge design, as well as investigating how science is fueling innovations of the future. In the afternoon, campers walk to MOHAI to discover the history of innovation in Seattle and learn the special skills that help innovators be creative and think differently.

Dates: July 10–14, 2017

Location: MOHAI and PSC

Hours: 8:30 am–4 pm; drop off between 8:15–8:30 am; pick up between 4–4:15 pm; extended care offered mornings only, 7–8:30 am

Ages: Entering Grades 4–6

Cost: Before April 30, 2017, $385 MOHAI and PSC members / $415 general public
After April 30, 2017, $415 MOHAI and PSC members / $445 general public
Extended care, $60 per week or $14 per day

Scribes Writing Camp

Scribes Writing Camp is an opportunity for middle- and high-school students to engage intensely with creative writing, and develop their craft.

MOHAI teams up with Hugo House for the popular Scribes program at the museum. Scribes Writing Camp is an opportunity for middle- and high-school students to engage intensely with creative writing, develop their craft, learn from accomplished guest artists, and discover a diverse range of genres, forms, and writers. The Scribes Camp also includes a special public reading of students’ work on the evening of August 3, 2017.

Dates: July 24–August 4, 2017 (Monday–Friday)

Location: MOHAI

Hours: 10 am–4 pm; arrival between 9:30–10 am

Ages: Students in middle and high school

Cost: Before March 31, 2017, $725
After March 31, 2017, $750

Trailblazers - SOLD OUT!

There’s an adventure this summer at MOHAI through Lake Union Park! Campers (entering grades 1–2) examine mysterious artifacts and photographs to dive into the history of how people traveled.

There’s an adventure this summer at MOHAI through Lake Union Park! During daily explorations throughout the museum, campers examine mysterious artifacts and photographs to dive into the history of how people traveled by foot, boat, rail, and air. Campers build model boats, read books about historic journeys, and dream up new forms of transportation for the future. Then, with Seattle Children’s Theatre (SCT) teaching artists, campers enter their own interactive story to create new ways to travel through field and forest, across mountains, over oceans, and into the skies.

Seafaring Adventure Camp - SOLD OUT!

Kids entering grades 3–5 can embark on a seafaring adventure at Lake Union Park with MOHAI, the Center for Wooden Boats, SS VIRGINIA V, and Northwest Seaport.

Embark on a seafaring adventure at Lake Union Park with MOHAI, the Center for Wooden Boats, SS VIRGINIA V, and Northwest Seaport. This week-long camp takes place on land and in boats on the waters of Lake Union. Campers experience life on board of a ship, and plunge into the science of steam powered engines, navigation, and model sailboat building. Don’t miss the fun!

Dates: August 14–18, 2017

Location: MOHAI, the Center for Wooden Boats, and the Historic Ships Wharf in Lake Union Park

C1 Coders Camp

Middle school students learn about problem solving, teamwork, and the principles of software development directly from Capital One tech volunteers and mentors.

MOHAI and Capital One are excited to offer the popular C1 Coders Camp! Middle school students learn about problem solving, teamwork, and the principles of software development directly from Capital One tech volunteers and mentors. During this week-long camp, youth design and create apps, explore the Bezos Center for Innovation and other exhibits, and get an interactive glimpse into what a career in the tech industry looks like. The week culminates in a final presentation and judging of student projects, including a friends-and-family reception at the museum.

C1 Coders Camp is offered free of charge as part of Capital One’s Future Edge initiative, but space is limited. Priority will be given to applicants with little or no prior experience in coding, particularly students from communities that are underrepresented in the technology field.
