Internship Overview
MOHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist in developing marketing materials for the museum. As Marketing Department intern, you will get a behind the scenes look at the inner workings of MOHAI’s Marketing and Communications Department and gain hands-on experience working on public relations, social media, and other communications projects. Interns help maintain marketing materials, research and organize images, write press releases, and work on projects in an area of their interest. MOHAI’s past interns have cited the skills and resources they’ve gained in this internship as instrumental in achieving employment at MOHAI, and other institutions.

Desired Qualifications: B.A. (or working towards) in Communications, Marketing, English, or Museum Studies preferred.


  • Assist the Marketing and Communications Department with several writing and promotional projects during the summer including developing marketing materials for the museum
  • Research media coverage related to MOHAI
  • Creating a cumulative report that summarizes media coverage during the internship
  • Help the marketing team with its summer campaign, and as it gears up for its exhibit WW1 America opening September 1, 2018
  • Aid in creating collateral such as press releases, social media copy, photo/image research, event info packets, etc. for exhibits, events, and programs
  • Help with the museum’s membership acquisition and digital media efforts
  • Post on MOHAI’s social media outlets and working closely with MOHAI’s Digital Media Specialist


  • Minimum 8 hours per week, between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday—Friday
  • Early June—August 28, 2018


  • Strong reading comprehension, writing, and editing skills, demonstrated through submitted writing samples
  • Strong inter-personal and organizational skills
  • Must be self-motivated, energetic, and enjoy working in a collaborative atmosphere
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, databases, or compatible tools/products, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Not required but beneficial, experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • CRM systems


  • Educational enrichment and knowledge gained about writing for media and nonprofit marketing
  • Professional development opportunities such as networking and intern-staff mixers
  • Experience working in a professional museum setting with staff and volunteers
