    Contact information will only be used to contact participants whose work has been selected for a showcase at the museum in October and/or to be published in a zine. Please see below for more information about the selection process and rules.

  • Submission Guidelines
    • Submissions are due no later than September 9 at 11:59 pm.
    • All work must be original and written by a single individual.
    • An individual can submit up to four works, and they can be in the same or different categories.
    • Reading one of the books on the BookMarked Seattle list is not necessary, but it is encouraged.
    • Submissions will be disqualified if they voice personal hateful opinions or use derogatory language to minimize the lived experience of others.
    • For recordings: please submit your work as an MP3 file. Save the file as the title of your piece, but do not include your name. Work must be no longer than 2 minutes.
    • For photography and drawing/paintings: please take a photo of your work and submit as a JPEG. Image resolution should be at least 300 dpi. Save the file as the title of your piece, but do not include your name.
    • For writing: please submit work as a PDF or Word document. Save the file as the title of your piece, but do not include your name. Work must be no longer than 2,000 words.

    Works may be compiled into a MOHAI Youth Advisors zine to be published in Fall 2018.

    We are looking for art exploring a diverse set of experiences in Seattle for the zine. Work will be selected based on the thoughtfulness, clarity, and creativity portrayed in the piece.

  • I understand that if my work is selected for a showcase, I am responsible for communicating with MOHAI representatives to confirm my participation and to coordinate any live readings.
  • I, parent/guardian, give my permission that my student can participate in this competition, and that their work can be published in a BookMarked Seattle zine.
  • Please upload your submission below and refer to the submission guidelines for details on how to upload for each category. Remember that your work must have a title and a category for submission but NO NAME on any page of the submission, otherwise judging will not be completely anonymous.
    Accepted file types: pdf, mp3, jpeg, docx, Max. file size: 2 MB.
